Chosen Hill is a brilliant school where all staff build on our success and contribute to our vision to become outstanding in our aspirations and outcomes for all students. Our ambition is driven by our determination to create the conditions for all our students to achieve their potential and our desire to strengthen our leadership capacity.
School Leaders and Governors are strongly committed to relentless and ambitious improvement and to sustaining our inclusive ethos. A clear vision for safe and happy students, outstanding progress and excellence in teaching, learning and leadership exists and this is consistently and forensically pursued through line management monitoring arrangements.
Since our last inspection in May 2014 rapid progress has been made to secure increasingly good and outstanding teaching and learning is consistently in place. All teams have supported a relentless drive for system-wide improvement and we are determined that active learning to meet the differing needs of students for the majority of every lesson is securely in place. We have redesigned assessment in particular in KS3 and are working to ensure all students are consistently challenged in lessons. Planning for progress is increasingly collaborative in teams and a desire to become highly skilled in the use of questioning is evident.
Effective teaching and learning is at the heart of the school vision. Professional development is closely aligned with performance management and the School Improvement Priorities.
Students are required to set targets for their own progress and regular learning conversations take place between students and staff and students, parents and staff. Assessment tracking and subject monitoring procedures have enabled targeted support for all students and all significant groups.
Monitoring by all leaders is rigorous and regular and focuses sharply on the quality of classroom learning, student progress and learning conversations for improvement.
Chosen Hill School recognises by virtue of its above average student intake that its aspiration and challenge must be correspondingly ambitious.
Safeguarding procedures are secure and behaviour is excellent. An atmosphere of trust and mutual respect and tolerance is evident at Chosen Hill School. The wider life of the school is evident in the huge range of clubs, activities, trips, sporting and arts activities on offer. Staff enjoy spending time with young people and student contributions to the leadership and wider life of the school is outstanding.
